Sheep and Goat Parasite Workshop is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. June 20, at the Bond Agricultural Building, 2401 S. Kansas Expressway, Springfield, Mo. “If you want to check your sheep or goats for fecal egg counts, you can learn how at this workshop,” said Jodie Pennington, small ruminant educator with Lincoln University Cooperative Extension.

Footrot is a costly disease in the sheep and goat industry. Countless producers lose time and money each year in an attempt to control it in their flock or herd. If footrot becomes a problem, it takes much effort and labor to control symptoms and eliminate it. However, footrot is a preventable disease with attentive management.
For those considering small-scale ruminant production, there are many factors involved in being successful! Small-scale production refers to raising a small flock of animals, typically fewer than 100, for commercial purposes.

Parsons, Kansas — A five year deworming trial was conducted at the Eastern Oklahoma Research Station located at Haskell, Oklahoma. In this trial crossbred cows and their calves were randomly allotted to four treatments: 1) non-dewormed control, 2) deworm calf only; 3) deworm cow only; and 4) deworm cow and calf.
